Walk-In Tubs
What Is a Walk-In Tub, and Who Is It For?
A walk-in tub is a bathtub with a sealed door in the side, so you step in over a low threshold instead of climbing over a high wall. It suits anyone who wants to keep bathing rather than switch to showering. Ours are stocked fully loaded, so installation starts three to five days from the date of sale and runs to three days at most.
What It Is, and Who It Suits
You open the door, step over a low threshold, sit down on a moulded seat, close the door and fill the tub. When you are finished the tub drains and the door opens again. The seat means you are not lowering yourself to the floor of a bath and getting back up from it.
This is the option for the household that does not want to give up bathing. A shower conversion is quicker and cheaper to live with, but it is a different thing — if a long soak is what the bathroom is for, converting it away is the wrong answer.
It also suits the adult child arranging things for a parent, which is who often makes this call. If what you actually want is a shower with a seat rather than a tub, look at walk-in showers or a tub-to-shower conversion.
What Is Included as Standard
We stock walk-in tubs fully loaded. The features below are the tub as it comes, not a list of add-ons.
- A sealed door in the side wall with a low step-in threshold
- A moulded seat at sitting height
- Hydrotherapy and air jet options, fitted in the stocked configuration
- A heated seat and a quick-drain system
- Grab bars in the stocked finishes, anchored into blocking set at the design visit
- The old tub removed and taken away
- Wall panels behind and around the tub where the existing wall is coming off — 14 colours, no grout
- GE Supreme Silicone Kitchen & Bath at every joint — 100% silicone, neutral cure, ASTM C920, water-ready in 30 minutes
A walk-in tub is heavier and takes more water than the tub it replaces. We check the supply, the drain and the floor at the consultation and tell you if anything needs attention before we order.
The Choices You Make
The tub itself comes fully loaded. What is left is how it sits in your room.
Which side the door is on
Decided by where your plumbing is and which way you approach the tub. We work it out standing in the room, not from a plan.
Wall colour
Where the surrounding wall is being re-covered, the same fourteen stocked colours are available. Moonstone Mist, Midnight Gold, Fossil Ridge, Tidal Slate among them.
Fixture finish
Brushed nickel or matte black, both stocked. Champagne bronze is a special order rather than a stocked finish — see the timeline below.
The fixture itself
Tub filler, plus a handheld on a slide bar if you want to rinse off sitting down. Most people take the handheld.
Grab bars
Knurled bars in your chosen finish. You decide where they go; blocking is set behind the wall at the design visit so they anchor into timber rather than board.
Shelves and a niche
A recess in the wall or corner shelves on the panel face, wherever you reach from the seat rather than from standing.
Pick the colours and the hardware before anything is ordered
Colours, fixture finishes and hardware are shared across everything we install, so the same page covers a walk-in tub surround as covers a shower.
A note on doors
The walk-in tub has its own sealed door — that is the product, and it is not an option to choose between. Shower doors only come into it if your project also includes a shower: a stocked semi-frameless bypass slider, a custom glass enclosure, or no door at all. All three are choices, not upgrades. The full door options are on the walk-in showers page.
How Long It Takes
Three to five days from the date of sale
That is the wait until we arrive. It is not a schedule of work. We stock walk-in tubs fully loaded, which is why the number is days rather than months.
Up to three days of install
A walk-in tub is the longest of our stocked jobs. A straightforward one is quicker; fully loaded, allow three days at most.
Champagne bronze runs to seven days
Champagne bronze fixtures and doors are a special order rather than a stocked finish, which moves the start out to seven days at most.
The reason is inventory. We carry the panels, the bases, the doors and the fixtures, so the wait is scheduling rather than manufacturing. If you want the long version of why that is unusual, read why a bathroom remodel takes months when the work takes days.
One We Did in Henderson
The before and after at the top of this page are the same alcove: a standard bathtub out, a walk-in tub with a low door and grab bars in. Two details from the same kind of work below.
Bars anchored into blocking set behind the wall.
A walk-in tub is a heavy carry — floors get covered first.
Our Warranty
Lifetime warranty covering plumbing, wall systems, fixtures, shower pan, doors and installation. Transferable to a new owner, backed by RenewItHQ, documented in writing. Only exclusion is customer damage.
Why the Details Matter
This page is what happens and what you choose. The guides below are the why — what is behind the wall, what fails on other jobs, and what to ask whoever you hire.
- How high should a grab bar be, and what holds it up?
- Why does a bathroom remodel take months when the work takes days?
- How slip-resistant does a shower floor need to be?
- What does "limited lifetime warranty" actually mean?
- Why do some bathroom finishes wear out faster than others?
- Which caulk belongs in a shower, and how long should it last?
